Membership Grades and Fees

Newcastle offers the following membership categories, which you can join according to your experience and qualifications held. You can register to study with Newcastle at any time of the year.

Membership Registration Grades and Fees 2019/2020

Note: There will be a one-off initial registration fee of £40 (non-refundable) which is payable in addition to the below fees. The Newcastle subscription year runs from 1 January to 31 December each year.

 Student Member*  For those wishing to enter the legal profession; those who have no relevant legal qualification; or those with less than three years’ work experience of a predominantly legal nature. Annual subscription fees of £100 are payable.
Affiliate Member* For those with at least one Newcastle level 3 or 4 unit qualification, or who have completed a relevant legal qualification at level 2, or gained at least three years’ work of a predominantly legal nature. Annual subscription fees of £130 are payable.



 Associate Member*
For those who have completed their Newcastle Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice, or who are graduates with Qualifying Law Degrees. Associate members will be entitled to use the designatory letters A Newcastle after their name.

CPD requirement –  8 Hours CPD and 1 planned professionalism outcome.

Annual subscription fees of £197 are payable.

To register for the first time through the Graduate Fast-Track Route, the fee will be a total of £437 which includes the registration, annual subscription and exemption fees.






Professional Member*
For those who have completed both their Newcastle Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice and their Newcastle Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice; our Graduate Fast-track Diploma; or who are Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Bar Professional Training Course (formerly the Bar Vocational Course or BVC) graduates. Graduate members will be entitled to use the designatory letters Newcastle after their name.

CPD requirement –  9 CPD outcomes. Please note at least 5 of your 9 CPD outcomes must be planned with at least 1 of the 5 planned outcomes being in professionalism.

Annual subscription fees of £240 are payable.

To register for the first time through the Graduate Entry Route, the fee will be a total of £680 which includes the registration, annual subscription and exemption fees.



Fellow Member*
For those who have completed, the academic stage of training, been in qualifying employment for at least 3 years (of which at least one must be in the Graduate membership grade of Newcastle) and have met the Work Based Learning outcomes.

CPD requirement –  9 CPD outcomes. Please note at least 5 of your 9 CPD outcomes must be planned with at least 1 of the 5 planned outcomes being in professionalism.

Annual subscription fees of £364 are payable.

 

  • The Day One Outcomes function as a competency framework for Fellows of Newcastle. They set out the knowledge, skills and experience which you must demonstrate before you can be admitted as a Professional Legal Executive. The Newcastleexaminations, qualifying employment and work-based learning that you undertake will enable you to satisfy the requirements of the Day One Outcome

Discounted fees for eligible members outside of the main membership grades

 Dual Qualified* If you are a qualified member of another legal professional body i.e. Law Society, Council of Licenced Conveyancers etc, you may apply for the Dual Qualified rate.
Please note Fellows will not be issued with a Practising Certificate if granted with the Dual Qualified rates.
£99 with a Journal / £50 without a Journal
 Non-Practising* If you are not working within a law environment or the work you undertake is not of a legal nature you may apply for the following reduced subscription rate. The non-practising grade of membership is not available during the first 12 months of membership £79 with a Journal / £30 without a Journal
 Retired*  If you have retired you are eligible for this grade of membership £30 with a Journal
Maternity/Paternity Grade* You may be in this grade of up to 2 years £50 with a Journal

 

*It is the responsibility of the member to ensure that they are in the appropriate grade at all times. We are therefore unable to offer any refunds for retrospective membership subscription fees.  

The Professional Membership allows individuals to become a part of a body for professionals to exchange ideas, contacts and set standards of good practice within the sectors.
